UNPOSSIBLE
My final university project, ‘Unpossible’ is a duo of satirical newspapers created to spread awareness about the dangers of misinformation, encourage media literacy and promote a healthy level of scepticism when consuming news media.
The first newspaper, entitled “People Hate Us” is a satirisation of “The Pyongyang Times,” the official state controlled newspaper of North Korea. People Hate Us takes the authoritarian and feudalistic form of misinformation perpetuated in The Pyongyang times and places it in a more relatable context, treating our own King as the North Koreans treat Kim Jong Un- as a fatherly, god like figure.
The second newspaper, entitled “People Hate You” is a satirisation of “The Light,” a paranoid right wing publication devoted to the perpetuation of extreme conspiracy theories. People Hate You satirises this by presenting it’s own absurdist theories such as the presence of mind controlling beetles and government manufactured clones.
The two papers were created as a dichotomy to one another in order to represent the extreme and varied ways that misinformation can manifest itself on either side of the political spectrum.
